The Stars are Falling

Acrylics on mirror
40cm x 50cm

Inspired by children’s books of whimsical fairy tales, this piece is colourful and calm. While stars appear to fall from the sky, the characters below are seen simply continuing to walk. Through the endless difficulties of the pandemic, we needed to continue with our lives – go to school, work, cook dinner, or walk the dog. Like how all fables end, with everything being okay and the conflict resolved, it was necessary for us all to push through our daily and regular lives for this to occur. The characters I chose to paint are significant as well, with the lily signifying the first bloom of spring, the book turning a new page, and the binoculars looking to the future, which represents where we are now.
